Most of the time with cocktails, there are ingredients and liquors that can be rearranged. For example, with almost any vodka drink: you can choose the vodka of your choice. Of course, the quality of the vodka will affect the quality of the drink, similarly to the way that freshly squeezed fruit juice will make your cocktail more refreshing, rather than simply store-bought juice.

Every once in a while, however, the directions are stricter and more specific, because it takes certain products for the drink to work. The Zombie’s Brew is one of those examples.

  • 1 part Three Olives Tartz vodka
  • 1 part triple sec
  • 2 parts lemonade
  • Lemon slice (optional)

  1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a lemon slice, if desired.

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Cocktail glass

Three Olives, the British vodka company, is not the largest vodka company in the world by any means, but it has seen some international success. The particular flavor aims to be sweet and tart, and even the color scheme of the bottle is meant to make a particular connection, with the candy, “Sweet Tarts”. While there are many vodka flavors that attempt to replicate desserts and candy, this is one of the few vodkas that attempt to aim for a very “tart” experience specifically. That’s why the triple sec and lemonade serves to balance it out, and helps to make it a refreshing option, especially for the summertime, when most people are drawn towards lemonade. However, the Three Olives Tartz vodka is really the kind of liquor that is perfect as a springboard for experimentation. There is always a nostalgic aspect when childhood candy flavors enter the cocktail world, but the fact that such a tart vodka exists helps bartenders come up with creative ways to balance out and mix flavors to come up with their own creations. It may not be your cup of tea, but if you feel like being adventurous, or simply have quite the “tart tooth”, the Zombie’s Brew is perfect for you. Drink up and enjoy!
