The Water Moccasin cocktail is a popular cocktail lovers’ favourite, named after a venomous cottonmouth snake of the same name which is found in South Eastern USA. The Water Moccasin can be made into a shot as well as a mixed drink, and is recommended by bartenders the world over as an excellent starter drink. Legend has it that the cocktail and its shot version are the smoothest drinks ever, and its delectable flavour is often described to be “like drinking a starburst”.

The Water Moccasin cocktail won its deadly name because it is so smooth, that it can surely sneak up and bite you without you knowing, similar to its namesake snake. The drink is considered by many bartenders as their favourite way to serve and drink whiskey, and is popularly served on the menus of bars as well as restaurants across the States. When varied, the recipe typically switches up to include Pineapple Juice in the place of Sweet and Sour Mix, but that’s about it, as the original recipe itself is that well-loved.

Those who love a gentle taste to their drinks will enjoy the Water Moccasin, and fans claim it gets them drunk faster than a lot of drinks that are advertised to be stronger. However, consume at your own risk, because a little goes a long way with the Water Moccasin, and before you know it, it’s bite may become venomous.
