The Purple Gecko is a Tequila based cocktail that, despite having the word purple in its name, ranges in colours from blue to purple to a reddish mauve. It is typically served generously, in a sugar-rimmed cocktail glass, and it not only resembles a Margarita cocktail in profile but also in flavour.
This cocktail, which also comes in a shot version, is named after a gecko because at first it may seem like an easy going, harmless cocktail, but drinkers don’t notice when this secretly potent drink creeps up on them. The Tequila in the drink is complemented by Blue Curacao, followed by Orange Curacao, Lime Juice and Sweet and Sour mix. Topping it off with a medium sized dollop of cranberry juice adds the purple hues to the Purple Gecko cocktail, and makes the profile of the drink nicely dry as well.
This unique cocktail often turns out to be not-so-beautiful by the end of mixing such a variety of colourful flavours in, but it is surprisingly delicious and very hard to put down. Most cocktail lovers and bartenders advise caution with this one though, because the incorporation of four rowdy servings of liqueur make this concoction pretty potent. Many drinkers of this cocktail compare its flavours to that of Pink Cadillac Margarita. This adventurous spirited cocktail is best had at the start of a promisingly fun night.
