Two fruits that are highly revered but might not be as popular in the classical sense are the peach and pomegranate, which have their own fanbases in the culinary and alcohol world, but never was elevated to the “mainstream” level of fruits such as apples or bananas, or even the more popular alternatives such as pineapples and watermelons.
These fruits are both a bit more complex in taste, but those with a more sophisticated palate have always valued them. They appear together in various culinary dishes, but it took a bartender at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia named John Cristinzio to create the Peach Pomegranate Holiday Martini. Since its creation, it has spread to other Ritz-Carlton properties, and become a winter favorite among the luxury hotel chain’s guests.
- 3 ounces of Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka
- 1 ounce of Peachtree Peach Schnapps
- 1 ounce of orange juice
- ¼ wedge of freshly-squeezed lemon juice
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, with ice.
- Shake thoroughly.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with additional ingredients, if desired.
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail glass
Although it isnt necessary, the optional garnishes are probably relevant for the holiday season, and they include cinnamon, sugar, and a spiraled orange zest, which is a popular garnish for martinis. For those who like to go the extra mile in terms of presentation, the glass can be rimmed in cinnamon and sugar, as well. Of course, this isnt necessary, as the fruit flavors are more than enough to satisfy the palate, and the drink is a beautiful red hue that truly captures a holiday spirit. Any pomegranate vodka can be used of course, and the juices are best if they are all freshly squeezed, as usual. For true cinnamon lovers, a cinnamon stick can be added, as well. This is the perfect martini to serve at your next upscale holiday gathering.
