There is something comforting about an adult drink that brings us all back to our childhood, which is why there are so many cocktails and drinks based on candies. As one can imagine, the “M&M” is a drink that is in this vein. It’s well known that this is one of the most popular candies in the world, as it is sold in over 100 countries.
It is the flagship of Mars, Inc, a multi-billion dollar corporation that employs thousands of people around the world. For perspective, almost a half-billion M&M’s are created every day in the United States to meet the global demand. Of course, it was only a matter of time before someone put this delicious treat into drink form. This is the shot version of the famous candy.
- ¾ ounce of amaretto
- ¾ ounce of coffee liqueur
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into a chilled shot glass.
- Cocktail shaker
- Shot glass
There are many variations to this shot, as people always want to perfect candy-associated drinks to make the drink closer to the candy. One great way to make the shot more authentic, or to extend the drink to a full-fledged cocktail, is to try to use a chocolate-infused vodka. This would obviously lead to a much more chocolatey drink/shot, which is much heavier than the shot described, but would be more close to the candys taste.
There is also a popular variation to the M&M shot that uses Frangelico and crème de cacao instead of amaretto and coffee liqueur. One can adjust the exact ingredients depending on the kind of tastes that they prefer: coffee, hazelnut, or chocolate. One thing is for sure you will definitely be reminiscing about childhood when you take this shot, and it can be tasty to the point where it might be deadly. This particular M&M treat is not for kids, so remember to drink responsibly!
