The lychee fruit has an illustrious history that dates back almost a thousand years ago, and this delectably juicy fruit has long been considered a symbol of both royalty and love in ancient China. The ancient Chinese legends tell of an imperial Lady Yang Kuei Fei and her passionate fondness for lychees, and the Emperor Hsuan Tsung who had guards on fast horses traveling hundreds of miles across the land to bring his lady love her favourite fruit. In this modern era, maybe the romantic Lychee Martini will help you do some of your own wooing.

The Lychee Martini has enjoyed a great decade, and has risen swiftly into popularity in recent years, with predictions that this Martini is here to stay and even become a modern classic. Guests are sure to find this pleasant, fruity martini a delicious refreshment, and this clever variation of the martini is good for any occasion, and can be drunk before dinner, during dinner, and even after dinner.

The Lychee Martini is a cocktail made with Lychee Liqueur, Vodka, and topped off with a dash of lime juice, with a couple of lychees tossed in at the end for the finishing touch. The perfect Lychee martini is ideally served with high quality fresh lychees, and with extracted fresh lychee juice to replace the commonly used syrup. However, either way, it is a rich, flavourful martini which is sure to be popular in large groups due to its agreeable taste and pleasing appearance.

Here’s the recipe for Lychee Martini.

Ingredients

  • 90 ml Vodka
  • 60 ml lychee juice
  • Splash Vermouth
  • 1 Lime

Preparation

  1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Add Vodka to cocktail shaker, followed by Lychee Juice and then Vermouth
  3. Shake briskly until chilled
  4. Pour into martini glass
  5. Add one squeeze of a lime
  6. Garnish with pitted lychees

  • Martini glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • 2 Lychees for garnish
