There are many dessert drinks and martinis that go absolutely overboard when it comes to their theme. This could mean that the drink is almost essentially a meal, complete with ingredients such as chocolate, whipped cream, gummy bears, graham crackers, and other delicious options.

While these can be extremely satisfying, they might be too filling for those who simply want a drink with a “hint” of dessert rather than overwhelmingly satisfying their sweet tooth. For those pickier drinkers, the Liquid Bourbon Ball is the perfect choice, and reminds the drinker that sometimes less can be more.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of bourbon whiskey
  • 1 ounce of white crème de cacao
  • ¼ ounce of hazelnut liqueur
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Ice

Preparation:

  1. Pour the bourbon and liqueurs over ice into a mixing glass.
  2. Stir.
  3. Strain into a cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with chocolate shavings, if desired.

Equipment:

  • Mixing glass
  • Cocktail glass
  • Stirring spoon

The chocolate shavings, of course, are not necessary, as the hazelnut liqueur combined with the crème de cacao should have the desired effect, regardless. The drink can be served chilled in a martini glass, or served on the rocks in a traditional cocktail glass, as well. It is a logical choice for those who love both dessert and whiskey, so if you are not a fan of one of these; it might not be for you. There are many people who basically call the drink a chocolate version of the Manhattan, which isn’t wholly inaccurate. For those who don’t know, there is an actual dessert called bourbon balls, which is why the cocktail is named this. It’s a Southern delicacy that was created in 1938, and consists of pecans, corn syrup, bourbon, crushed cookies, and then aged. For those who are a fan of the bite-sized dessert, or simply love a dessert drink that is more subtle, the Liquid Bourbon Ball cocktail delivers!
