This is an extremely pretty and feminine cocktail sporting the popular favourite of cocktails – Limoncello, which gives the drink its characteristic sweet and sour tang and also its name. The word lady is added to highlight the pink complexion of this classy cocktail, which can be attributed to a splash of grenadine.

The Lady Cello cocktail is sugary, sweet, and sour, and tastes rather like a pink lemonade gone boozy. It is ideal to serve to guests at a large party, enjoy with a meal, or enjoy at home as a tasty pick-me-up. Besides limoncello, the secondary liqueur of the drink is Rum, so its potency should not be underestimated. However, it is such a delicious cocktail that it’ll be hard to resist the second and third servings! Its pink hues and sweet and sour flavours make it a favourite among women, and it is also popularly served at women-only events.

The Lady Cello cocktail may not be as famous as some other feminine fruity flavoured cocktails, but it definitely holds its own amid the competition. Limoncello lovers are bound to have already tried it, but it is a good bet that anyone new to the drink or to drinking itself will definitely find it to be a welcome and refreshing pick-me-up as well. This tangy drink is definitely on the sour side, more so than the sweeter end.

Here is a recipe for this sweet and sour cocktail.

  • 1 ounce limoncello
  • 1 ounce rum
  • 1 teaspoon grenadine
  • 1⁄2 ounce lemon juice

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Pour all ingredients into the shaker and shake until condensation appears on the outside of the shaker
  3. To coat the rim of the glass, first dip upside down glass rim in limoncello and then in sugar
  4. Strain mixture into highball glass with coated rim
  5. Add in a maraschino cherry before serving
  6. Serve with straw

  • Highball glass
