The John Daly, obviously named after the famous American golfer John Daly, is a delicious refreshing concoction that unites the flavours of lemonade, iced tea and Vodka. The John Daly is also known as a grown up Arnold Palmer; a non-alcoholic beverage (also named after an American golfer) made of the first two ingredients – lemonade and iced tea. The addition of Vodka adds a strong kick to the drink, and enhances its refreshing and reviving nature.
The ideal time and place to drink this icy cocktail would be outdoors, on a hot day, sitting somewhere that overlooks a grand gold course. Of course, this tall refreshing drink can be enjoyed just about anywhere, because it is surely one of those cocktails which is good for every occasion, and enjoyed by most. However, here’s an interesting fact about the drink which you may not know: it is a tongue-in-cheek nod towards Daly, who was notorious for his problems with alcohol abuse.
The drink became popular in 2005, during Daly’s run at a Golf tournament at the Whiskey Creek Golf Course in Fort Myers Florida. It is no wonder that the drink was inspired at a golf tournament, as nothing sounds more refreshing than an iced-tea and lemonade-flavoured icy mixed drink that also has the bonus touch of Vodka. This cocktail claims to bring you back to life and cool your insides during a hot summers’ afternoon spent golfing.
