The Hairy Buffalo – also known as Jungle Juice – is a famous cocktail recipe which is typically made in big batches in the form of Punch. This cocktail is probably among the most frequently used recipes for whipping up spiked punch for grown-up parties and gatherings of all kinds.
The recipe for this cocktail is thus well-known by most bartenders, cocktail enthusiasts, as well as anyone who knows how to throw a good party. The punch inspired by this cocktail is made by mixing fruit and fruit juices with alcohol, and its ingredients are always subject to drastic variations. This makes it quite tricky to give a singular recipe for this cocktail, because essentially, your only limit when whipping up this deadly punch is your imagination.
Despite its silly name and typical punch serving, this formidable drink often goes underestimated, but depending on the amount of alcohol you add, this cocktail can become downright lethal. Regardless of which variation of this cocktail is made, the common factor in all variations of the Hairy Buffalo is its natural sweetness which tends to mask the alcohol content, making it dangerous when offering at a party because people are unaware of how much alcohol it contains. This is why it is advised to add alcohol with caution when making and serving this punch to a large group of people.
The most frequently used spirits and liqueurs used in this cocktail and its subsequent punch are Vodka, Whiskey, Tequila or pure grain alcohol. If you add actual fruit, it is up to you whether you would like to keep the fruits chunks inside after their flavour has been soaked, so that people can eat them separately, or take them out before serving.
