This is an International Bartender’s Association “Contemporary Classic” and is one of those grown-up dessert cocktails that will remind you of the creamsicles you craved as a kid. If you love the taste of sweet and spicy orange, you need to give this one a try.
Galliano is a sweet Italian liqueur that comes in a tall thin bottle that’s usually impossible to fit in your liquor cabinet because of its height. Find somewhere else to keep it, however, because it’s a staple in other classics like the Harvey Wallbanger and Yellow Bird.
This bright yellow liqueur has been around since 1896. Undertones of star anise, peppermint and cinnamon underlie its dominant vanilla flavour. It’s this last ingredient that makes it taste very different from other anise flavoured liqueurs like Sambuca or Pernod.
The Golden Dream is a great after-dinner drink, and if you really want to turn it into dessert, replace the cream with vanilla ice-cream. Either way, give it a really good shake to ensure the ingredients are well mixed and the drink is slightly frothy as it pours. The cocktail is traditionally served without garnish, but you can never go wrong with chocolate shavings if you’re going to indulge.
Here’s the recipe for a Golden Dream:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add all ingredients.
- Shake vigorously until the liquid is well frothed.
- Strain into a cocktail glass.
- Cocktail shaker
- Cocktail glass
