The Goldmine cocktail is a lowball scotch-based cocktail that may not be on every list of bar specials, but is ordered nonetheless in many cocktail bars where the seasoned drinker might frequent. One of the great things about the Goldmine is that it isn’t a seasonal drink, or specific for a certain time of day.
It’s the kind of drink that can be enjoyed at any time, and also has enough flavors going on for the drinker to at least be captivated by one aspect of it. It certainly is a solid cocktail that can determine just how advanced a bartender is, as there are many inexperienced barkeeps that may not even be familiar with the drink.

- Shake well.
- Strain into a chilled glass of your choice (with or without ice).
- Top off the drink with lemonade.
- Cocktail shaker
- Old-fashioned glass (or whatever glass you prefer)
The typical garnish for a gold mine is a cherry or orange slice. Its easy to tell that the Goldmine has a lot going on. For whiskey lovers, they might find solace in adding more than a half ounce of whiskey. Of course, a blended whiskey can be used, such as Chivas Regal, for example. One can adjust the amount of Galliano and sherry slightly to their preference.
The idea here is that the egg white and lemonade bring out fresh and bold flavors that make this more complicated than say, an old-fashioned. The drink thus doesnt lend itself to a certain category the egg white can soften the cocktail into a breakfast option, the citrus involved can make the drink an outside option, and the scotch involved is still enough to make this a late-night treat, as well. One thing is for sure, the cocktail finds beauty in its bold complexity. Enjoy a Goldmine cocktail today!
