There are all sorts of cocktails, with all sorts of rich traditions. Some of them have incredible stories, that involve mysterious inventors. Some of them have been created out of necessity, and some have been created as a complete mistake. There are extremely complex cocktails with all sorts of hints, flavors, and tastes. The Godmother, in contrast, is an extraordinarily simple but elegant cocktail, that is one of the easiest that one can possibly make.

It somehow still manages to have a kick of flavor, instead of being so simple that it is boring. It is by no means a popular bar drink, but considering how easy it is to make – perhaps it should be?

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces of vodka
  • ½ ounce of amaretto
  • Ice

Preparation:

  1. Build the ingredients in an old-fashioned glass with ice.
  2. Stir well.

Equipment:

  • Old-fashioned glass

The godmother has always played a tradition in history and in fairy tales. In Christian tradition, the godmother and godfather are supposed to take care of the baptized child in case something befalls their biological parents. The Godmother is the perfect drink for someone who doesn’t want to spend much time on mixing anything. It should be noted that the drink doesn’t require a shaker, a stirrer, or a muddler. In fact, one can even mix the cocktail quickly without ice, and the ice doesn’t need to be strained. It’s certainly the kind of quick, flavorful drink that can help after a long day, considering how little work is required to make it.

Since the only ingredients are vodka and amaretto, the only real variable is how upscale you want the drink to be. It can work in terms of the frugal drinker, who may not have the money or energy to whip up a complicated cocktail. Of course, the cocktail can certainly be an upscale one, with the right vodka and amaretto. It is often described as an alternative to the White Russian, for those who don’t want the “creamy” aspect of the White Russian. For hands-on drinkers, making your own amaretto is a way to make a project out of the drink. It may not be popular, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good drink! Enjoy the drink today, responsibly.
