Triple Sec

You don't need any. Easy!

This novelty Halloween cocktail looks terrifyingly terrific and will go perfectly with all your over-the-top Halloween decorations for your spooky party.

The idea of the cocktail is for it to look like a mashed-up witch’s brew with bits of frog and other creatures floating around in it. We use lime wedges as the frog’s body parts but you can add any other bits of fruit to make it look like other creatures floating in the brew.

The base of this drink is a simple vodka cranberry which was a pairing first conceived in 1945 by the Ocean Spray company who gave it the name ‘Red Devil’, then in the early 1960s it started to be known as a ‘Cape Codder’. The New Yorker in 1965 said of it:
“Let the jolly innkeeper refresh you (and your lady) with America’s newest cocktail creation – The Cape Codder”

The vodka cranberry is the basis of many popular cocktails now such as the Sea Breeze, the Bay Breeze, Sex on the Beach, Cosmopolitan and the Rose Kennedy. These popular cocktails add different touches like pineapple juice, club soda or triple sec.

This vodka cranberry creation is a simple drink with ghastly garish garnishes and this is how you make it:

  • Ice
  • 60 ml vodka
  • 120 ml cranberry juice
  • 2 lime wheels (and/or other fruits)

  1. Put all of the ingredients into a blender
  2. Blend lightly for 3-5 seconds making sure it is still chunky
  3. Pour into a chilled margarita glass

  • Blender
  • Chilled margarita glasses
