You guessed it – the Dirty Shirley is simply the cocktail version of everyone’s favourite childhood mocktail - the Shirley Temple! Who doesn’t remember that sweet and refreshing drink made with ginger ale and a grenadine slash, with a cherry or two to nibble at the end of it?
The Shirley Temple mocktail was named after the actress of the same name. Beautiful Shirley Temple reigned on the silver screen as a child actress during the Great Depression. The beautiful drink fades from red to a soft pink from bottom up, with bubbles rising up to the surface. Now that you’re older, your Shirley can go dirty, so no need to exclude Vodka from this delicious drink anymore.
The classic Dirty Shirley simply adds vodka to the original Shirley Temple recipe, but modern variations of the Dirty Shirley may substitute lemonade, orange juice or lemon-lime soda as well. Although its precise origin is largely unknown, rumour has it that the Dirty Shirley may have been first invented by a bartender at a restaurant in West Hollywood called Chasen’s, to serve to the then-child actress Shirley Temple.
The dirty version of that beloved nostalgic mocktail that everyone remembers from their childhood will bring back a lot of fond memories in the most fun way.
