Just like its namesake, the terrifyingly creepy short story from Stephen King – later turned into an epic movie franchise in the 80s, this cocktail will fast become a long-loved Halloween classic.

The exciting part of this recipe is the cinnamon syrup infusions and candy corn vodka infusion you get to prepare the night before your party. Candy corn is a ‘love it or hate it’ Halloween classic treat, but after experiencing this cocktail you and your friends will definitely love it!

First to explain how to make the infusions:

Combine 150g of candy corn with 1 litre of premium vodka in a large container and stir well. Cover the container and let it sit for a minimum of two hours. The longer the infusion is left to sit the stronger the flavour of the vodka, in this case the vodka will get sweeter the longer it is left to infuse. After your desired time strain the vodka back into the bottle and, voila! Childhood memories re-invented in a vodka drink.

Crush 60g of cinnamon sticks in a small bowl or muddler and combine in a large pan with 1kg superfine sugar and 1 litre of filtered water. Heat contents of the pan over a medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove the mixture from the heat and place aside to sit overnight. The next morning strain liquid and store in an empty clean bottle for use.

Now that you have prepared your syrup and vodka, here’s how to make the Children of the Corn Cocktail:

Ingredients:

  • 60ml candy corn vodka
  • 22ml lemon juice
  • 22ml cinnamon simple syrup
  • 120ml soda water
  • Lemon wheel to garnish
  • Candy corn skewer to decorate

Preparation:

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add vodka, lemon juice and syrup.
  2. Shake for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Top up the glass with soda water until full.
  5. Garnish glass with lemon wheel and candy corn decoration.

Equipment:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Highball glasses
