This is the signature cocktail of Santa Catalina Island off California’s southern coast. It tastes a bit like a banana flavoured White Russian and makes a wonderfully alcoholic milkshake.
Thankfully, there’s not any actual buffalo milk in the cocktail. It’s named after the bison that have roamed wild across the island for over a century. They were left behind after a movie shoot in the 1920s and flourished. Authorities now keep the herd down to about 150 to preserve the natural ecology, though their numbers once climbed as high as 600.
Crème de Banane cocktails tend to include some type of chocolate liqueur and are mostly dessert drinks similar to a Toblerone cocktail or a Mudslide. If you want to enjoy a healthier Buffalo Milk, make it with fresh bananas. Just peel and add a whole banana, with or without keeping the liqueur in the mix. Nutritionists claim that you can get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to survive from a glass of milk and a banana. Luckily, this cocktail has both!
