So many drinks are associated with certain cities from the United States and/or Europe, but Maryland is not typically an area that is known for its cocktails. Regardless, the Baltimore Bang is a twist on the Whiskey Sour, and while it may not be the most popular drink on the menu, it’s a twist on an old drink that certainly gets the job done.

For those who enjoy a sweet and fruity drink that isn’t a “typical” or “run of the mill” drink; it’s an obvious choice.

  • 1 ½ ounces of bourbon whiskey
  • 1 /2 ounces of apricot brandy
  • 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon of sugar
  • Ice
  • Orange slice and cherry (optional)

  1. Pour the ingredients over ice into a cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake vigorously.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with both the orange slice and cherry.

As always, the orange slice and cherry are optional garnishes, and one can get away with one, the other, or neither, depending on the preference. Also, one great thing about the Baltimore Bang is that it’s perfect for apricot lovers. Of course, it might not be a good fit for those who aren’t big fans of apricot at all. Also, for those who have a sweet or sour tooth, the recipe can be adjusted for preference. Those who prefer a sweet drink can add more sugar, the same way that those who love or hate the “sour” aspect of the drink can adjust the amount of lemon juice.

The Baltimore Bang is named after Baltimore, which is interesting because it isn’t from a metropolitan city or from New England, which are typically the two places that produce American cocktails. However, it is interesting to note that Baltimore is an “independent city”, meaning that it is not part of a specific county, and is the 30th-most populous city in the United States. The city has also been immortalized in pop culture in several ways. Nina Simone immortalized the city in a song called “Baltimore” in 1978, and one of the most critically acclaimed Tv shows of all time, The Wire, made Baltimore its core focus for its entire 5-season run. Whether you are a fan of Baltimore, apricots, or simply love the drink; enjoy a Baltimore Bang today!
