The Bahama Mama is a tropical cocktail which has become a standard at resorts across the Caribbean. It’s the first thing a tourist is handed when they get off the plane, and the last thing they sip before getting back on to go home. In all likelihood, they’ve had a fair few in-between as well.
There are a couple of interesting variations of the Bahama Mama Cocktail that are also worth a try. The frozen version contains the same ingredients as the Bahama Mama Cocktail recipe below, but is made in a blender. Add about a cup of crushed ice and blend until it has the consistency of a slushy.
The Tiki Bahama Mama adds 15ml of Kahlua to the cocktail, giving it an undertone of coffee flavour. Apparently, that makes it alright to have one for breakfast when you’re on your tropical island holiday.
Here’s what you need:
- 30ml White Rum
- 30ml Coconut Rum
- 15ml Dark Rum
- 60ml Orange juice
- 60ml Pineapple juice
- Splash of grenadine
- Orange slice and cherry to garnish
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the three rums and two fruit juices.
- Shake vigorously.
- Fill a hurricane glass with ice.
- Add a generous splash of grenadine.
- Pour in the contents of the cocktail shaker.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.
